Attorney Laura E. Reasons
Advocating for Employees

Laura is an experienced advocate and litigator for employees and workers. An accomplished employment lawyer known for her creative problem-solving skills and thorough and thoughtful approach to legal challenges, Laura now exclusively represents individuals—employees and workers.
Her career began at a national defense firm in Chicago, where she represented employers of all sizes in a wide range of employment matters, including both individual and class/collective wage and hour and employment discrimination litigation. She also spent a significant amount of time counseling employers across the full range of employment laws.
After over a decade of defense practice, Laura was hired by a growing plaintiff-side firm, to expand and lead its employment law practice. There, she continued her focus on wage and hour cases, including securing a seven-figure settlement in a collective action against government contractors for rest break violations, and achieving certification of a 16,000-person statewide Rule 23 class for off-the-clock work. Laura also worked on discrimination cases, where she played a key role in negotiating multiple seven-figure settlements on behalf of individuals and groups of clients.
In addition to her work in employment law, Laura has represented clients in other types of cases, including education, commercial, and breach of contract matters. Throughout her career, Laura has maintained a robust pro bono practice, securing life-changing outcomes for clients in areas such as immigration petitions (including asylum, VAWA, and DACA cases), orders of protection, name changes, criminal record expungements, and more. Her diverse legal background also includes experience working in government and in-house legal departments.
Driven by a passion for justice, Laura created Reasons Employment Law with a mission to challenge systems of power and level the playing field for employees and workers—particularly those with marginalized identities. She endeavors to empower employees to stand up for their rights at work. She is dedicated to guiding individuals through the complexities of the employment landscape and advocating for positive outcomes and rightful compensation on their behalf.
