Laura E. Reasons

Advocating for employees

Laura is an accomplished employment lawyer known for her creative problem-solving skills and thorough and thoughtful  approach to legal challenges. Her career began at a prominent full-service defense firm in Chicago, where she honed her litigation expertise handling both individual and class/collective cases involving wage and hour disputes and non-discrimination laws. During this time, she provided invaluable counsel to companies of all sizes grappling with complex employment issues. With over a decade of experience in defense practice under her belt, Laura transitioned to a leading national plaintiff-side firm, assuming a pivotal role in expanding and leading its employment law practice.  There, she continued her focus on wage and hour cases, securing notable achievements such as a seven-figure settlement in a collective action against government contractors for rest break violations, and the certification of a 16,000-person statewide Rule 23 class for off-the-clock work. Her expertise also extended to discrimination cases, where she played a key role in negotiating multiple seven-figure settlements on behalf of individuals and groups of clients. In addition to her work in employment law, Laura has successfully represented clients in various other legal domains, including education, commercial, and breach of contract matters. Throughout her career, Laura has maintained a robust pro bono practice, securing life-changing outcomes for clients in areas such as immigration petitions (including asylum, VAWA, and DACA cases), orders of protection, name changes, criminal record expungements, and more. Her diverse legal background also includes experience working in government and in-house legal departments. Driven by a passion for justice, Laura founded Reasons Employment Law with a mission to empower employees and workers to confront employers who violate their rights under the law.  She is dedicated to guiding individuals, especially those with marginalized identities, through the complexities of the employment landscape and advocating for positive outcomes and rightful compensation on their behalf. With a meticulous approach and a commitment to securing fair compensation for her clients, Laura navigates these complex legal landscapes with determination and skill, ensuring that the rights of employees and workers are protected and upheld.
